On the Helipad with Life Flight: Photographing Everyday Heroes

Sometimes the best photo sessions don’t go exactly as planned!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph an incredible group of Life Flight nurses on the hospital helipad. The original plan was to include the Life Flight helicopter and crew in our photos, but as luck would have it, they were called into action!

And that’s the thing about photographing healthcare heroes—saving lives always comes first.

While we missed having the helicopter as our backdrop, we certainly didn’t miss out on a great session! I had so much fun working with these amazing nurses, capturing their personalities, confidence, and team spirit.

The People Behind the Mission

One of the things I love most about healthcare photography is getting to meet the extraordinary people who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

Life Flight nurses work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where skill, teamwork, and compassion make all the difference.

Our time on the helipad was filled with smiles, laughter, and great energy. It was a wonderful reminder that behind every uniform is a person with a story worth capturing.

A Different Kind of Office View

After more than 25 years behind the camera, I still love that my work takes me to unexpected places and introduces me to inspiring people.

This time, my office happened to be a helipad, and my coworkers for the day were pretty extraordinary!
